Ruminations from a Waking Life: #Ecopsychosis



RAG: Natural disasters, pollution, global warming, resource depletion, ozone layer depletion, waste disposal, climate change, deforestation, loss of biodiversity, ocean acidification, genetic engineering, urban sprawl. One cause for all. Humans.

UL9: Everytime I try to vanquish off the human race from my earth, they assemble. To stop me.

RAG: I’ve lived over 700 years and seen what levels of destruction humans are possible of. Which is why I want to save my earth from ecological devastation by eliminating most of its population.

UL9: Being a few seconds in the internet made me realize what you came to know by living 700 years. Perfect environmental balance can happen only with the human race extinct. What makes you think at least some should survive?

RAG: Like the pit restores my youth, me and my league will construct everything back to equilibrium.

UL9: Construction. It can happen only with destruction. Destruction and extinction of the entire humanity. But many a times I’ve tried and failed. Maybe people in our earths don’t adhere to our dystopian worldview. But we know they are wrong.

RAG: Its the detective. He is the one who stops me all the time. I once almost desolated his city, for it was beyond repair, with all the crime, corruption and vandalism going on. He stopped me then. And again, he along with his league has stopped my biological warfare against humans multiple times. But I still see a possible ally in him.

UL9: Not to vex. This won’t run for too long. An apocalypse is bound to happen. In all the earths. Men create what they dread. Men of peace build engines of war.

It has been a year since the launch of Thrissur Chapter of Rhythm of Nation , a youth NGO committed to e-literacy and environment. Started off in Mumbai, RON also has its wings across Bhubaneswar, Orissa, Thrissur and now in Chennai. To Fulfill their Potential

The whole idea of writing this post came from the conversation I had with a friend some time back. She had visited our school and to her astonishment most of the teachers had the same or similar comments on the present day kids; that they find it hard to concentrate on something for a mere five minutes. The kids of the Lower Primary can’t get to learn the multiplication tables just because of the concentration levels that they possess. And most of them have this say that it getting worsened year by year. Much of the reason for this phenomenon can be attributed to our technological advancement or easy technology that our generation has got access to. Who has got time and patience for learning mathematical tables when each and every data they want are available at their fingertips at 3G speed? Pragat Shaikshanik Maharashtra

Pragat Shaikshanik Maharashtra ( PSM ) is an initiative of the Maharashtra State Government towards an educationally progressive Maharashtra. The RTE Act of 2009 came into effect in the nation on April 1, 2010. In Section 2, clause 3 of the Act, it states that all children between the age group 6–14 years are entitled to receive quality education. Annual status of education (ASER) 2014 survey showed that majority of children in Maharashtra cannot read basic sentences. Considering the statistics, only 27% class 8 students could read a basic text and 31% could divide numbers, in the State of Maharashtra. The state level assessment tests by the Maharashtra State Council of Education and Report (MSCERT) by the year 2014 revealed that the average reading skill of class 5 children was 51% and Math skill was 53%.
